Koh Yao Travel Guide
Getting in, around and about
Fly into Phuket International Airport, there are regular international routes from Sinagpore and Kuala Lumpur airports, domestic airlines tend to have a much better rate from these airports such as Air Asia.
You will then need to take a boat from one of the two piers in Phuket, Krabi or Phang Nga if you want to travel to Koh Yao Noi. There are at least 5 boats going at different times every day. If you are only going for the day, remember there are only a few boats coming back from the Ko Yao Noi everday, the last leaving at 15h00, except Fridays when the last boat back is at 14h00. One of the piers in Phuket will take you to Koh Yao Yai. You are also able to transport a motorcycle across, and the boat trips take about 15 minutes or so to get there. Contact Asian Trails to arrange your transfers.
Once you have reached the islands, it’s pretty easy to get around; plenty of tuk-tuks will be waiting at the pier to take you to your accommodation. You can also hire bicycles –one of the favored ways to get about along with scooters. You can hire both on either island. If all else fails, just flag down a tuk-tuk, who will zip you around where you need to go, or a smiling local will be happy to help you with a lift, but get ready to squash in on a scooter with 3 other people and their shopping!

Chilling Out
Koh Kayak Expeditions are a friendly team, who run a small little kayak tour business who will take you on your own seaside adventure, where there are no tourists, just the sea, the sun and the sand.
DragonHeart is a gorgeous sailing boat that takes visitors on the ultimate day sailing cruise, all around the bay to some of the neighboring islands. Be prepared to be spoilt with a full on meal prepared freshly on board. Fresh fish, glorious curries, loads of pillows to lie back on after your meal and a happy bustling crew, make it a perfect outing.
Eating Out
La Luna is a real Italian pizza parlor and bar, owned and run by the friendly Italian, Romano. Excellent food, brilliant wine, awesome music and a fantastic and friendly atmosphere; one of the best places just to pull into and chill out.
Tabaek Viewpoint Bungalo is an authentic Japanese restaurant run by the Japanese wife, Kazuyo, of the local police office on Koh Yao Noi. Excellent Japanese fare, right up the end of a dirt road where the bungalows are, called Paramotes.
If you plan on visiting the islands, you will need to take cash with you, even though there are hardly any places to spend it on there. The locals on the islands still continue to live in their traditional ways, and they feel very strongly about preserving their l way of life. Visitors to the islands are asked to be respectful and remember that they are guests, and to remember to dress appropriately and to please not take alcoholic beverages outside of the demarcated resorts for visitors.
