Alternative attractions off track

For historical exploration without the company of crowds, the sprawling archaeological park of Sri Ksetra in northern Myanmar offers a wealth of opportunities. Since July 2014, this destination – also known as Thayekhittaya – has been listed as a World Heritage Site.

Dating back to the 5th century, it was once South-East Asia’s largest walled city with a royal palace within. Since UNESCO’s endorsement and more visitors, the temple ruins, Baw Baw Pagoda and the Sri Ksetra Museum are excellent alternatives for those seeking history and heritage away from the masses.
