Beijing Daxing International Airport to begin operations

Beijing Daxing International Airport, located 45 kilometres south of China’s capital, is scheduled to start commercial operations on September 30, 2019. It is capable of handling 72 million passengers annually by 2025 and 100 million by 2040, making it one of the world’s busiest. It is also officially the world’s biggest airport.

Construction of Daxing Airport began end 2014, and its total cost is estimated at US$12.9 billion. It is designed to take over some flight operations from the existing overcrowded Beijing Capital International Airport. According to official estimates, the two airports combined will handle 170 million passengers annually by 2025. Road and rail links connect the new airport to Beijing.
