Exploring Bagan’s colourful night market

Bagan, Myanmar’s ancient city, has more to offer than pagodas – its colourful night market is one of the attractions very popular with tourists.

The market is a few minutes’ walk from ‘Nyaung Oo’ and a 10-minute’ drive from Old Bagan. Located in a compound along the side of Bu Pagoda it opens from 6pm to 10pm. Stalls sell local fabric, souvenirs and handicraft. There are also colourful food stalls and restaurants. Visitors to the market can watch the spectacular sunset by the Ayeyarwady River over the Bu Pagoda. The market is an interesting addition to a programme in Bagan.
