Elephant riding around Angkor cancelled

No more elephant rides at Angkor from 2020.
Elephant rides have been a controversial issue due to a number of incidents involving these mammals, including the death of one in 2016. In response to worldwide calls for a ban on elephant rides, which are popular in many tourist destinations in Asia that still offer them, Cambodia has taken the laudable move to stop this activity in Angkor that houses the magnificent Angkor Wat and its complex of ancient temples.
The elephants will be transferred to a new conservation and breeding centre where visitors can see these gentle giants in a more natural habitat, creating a more sustainable tourist attraction in Cambodia.
