Buffalo Encounters in Luang Prabang

The buffalo is a common sight in rural Laos, and two families have set up a project in Luang Prabang – Laos Buffalo Diary – around this trustworthy animal.
The country’s first social enterprise of its kind, the concept is to create awareness of the buffalo’s multifunctional roles, from providing milk to ploughing the fields.
Tours and packages have been created around this project to help the local communities support the buffalo population. Revenue generated also helps fund local and regional workshops on animal care, organic ways to produce feed and milking methods, as well as improve children’s nutrition in rural villages.
