Wat Phra Keo Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai’s Wat Phra Kaew may not have the crowds of its Bangkok counterpart, bearing the same name.
Said to be the oldest temple in the city, its Lanna style construction dates back to the 15th century and holds a serene place in the spiritual minds and souls of Chiang Rai residents.
But there is an actual connection between both temples. The birthplace of the Emerald Buddha (now housed in Bangkok’s Wat Phra Kaew, on the grounds of the Grand Palace) was actually enshrined in this fine example of North Thailand temple construction.
