3 Days Jazz in the City

3 Days Jazz in the City

Chilled grooves and well-tuned moods take centre stage in Vientiane

It’s like a match made in musical heaven. The genteel aura flowing through Laos’ French-influenced capital takes on new levels of pure enjoyment with the arrival of the Vientiane Jazz Festival. From 8 until 9 May 2020, the city has invited numerous local and regional jazz performers for a 2-day festival of riffs, notes and head-nodding moments.

Asian Trails Laos is extremely proud to be one of the partners of this new edition of one of the country’s leading music festivals since its inception in 2014. For two nights, guests will be musically guided through the world of jazz at a dedicated part of the city. Any serious music aficionado will earmark this extraordinary event in their calendar and will put Vientiane in a whole new light.

Day 1 | 3 Days Jazz in the City

Day 1

Arrival Vientiane – Vientiane                                                                                                       [-]

Guests are warmly welcomed by our airport representative before being transferred to the booked accommodation in the heart of the Laotian capital. Laos’ national capital Vientiane offers a blend of French-colonial architecture and Asian spirituality, most notably the golden 16th-century Pha That Luang – the nation’s symbol of independence and sovereignty. Visitors can stroll along smart tree-lined boulevards and enjoy drinks at Fa Ngum, a pleasant road adjoining the Mekong River. No lunch is included on this day.

The rest if the day is at leisure and a perfect time to watch life slowly passing by while the capital is warming up for an evening of tunes, good vibes and relaxation with the arrival of Vientiane’s Jazz Festival. An event that thoroughly will engulf anyone with a weak spot for music and solidified by a carefully selected group of jazz professionals.

At the beginning of the evening (6:30 pm), an Asian Trails Laos’ driver will bring you to the festival where you and your travel companion(s) immerse in the various styles of jazz being performed live under the Laotian night sky. Food and drink stalls aplenty assure that none of the visitors will go hungry or thirsty (on own arrangement). The festival grounds will be filled with tunes from 7 pm onward until midnight, and your entrance pass includes access to all performances.

Transfer back from the Vientiane Jazz Festival to your accommodation is on own arrangements. We recommend hopping onto a tuk tuk for a cool, open-aired experience after reminiscing with your fellow music enthusiasts about a jazzy evening in Laos.

No dinner included.

Day 2 | 3 Days Jazz in the City

Day 2

Vientiane                                                                                                                                         [B]

Breakfast is included at your booked hotel in Vientiane

After breakfast, you’re welcomed by our guide for a half day exploration of Vientiane. We start the morning with a visit to the Patuxai. This iconic landmark is likened to Arc de Triomphe since it has a similar concrete structure with an arched gate, although typical Laos’ decoration features at the top of this monument. Patuxai translates to ‘Victory Gate’ and was built to commemorate those who lost their lives during several wars. It is situated on Lane Xang Avenue, which leads to the Presidential Palace in the centre of the capital. Continue to admire the Pha That Luang, an unmissable part of the capital. Pha That Luang is one of Laos’ most treasured Buddhist monuments as reflected by its entirely golden colour that glistens under the sun. This large stupa is in a characteristic banana flower shape, reaches 45 metres into the sky and is enclosed by golden cloisters with tiny windows. Local legends cite that That Luang was built to house a breast bone of the Buddha. We return back to your accommodation where the remainder of the day is at leisure.

No lunch is included.

With the sun setting, another evening of jazz awaits. Vientiane’s little-known name in the international music scene will change forever after witnessing bass, drum and saxophone virtuosos play at their heart’s contempt. The festival grounds will sparkle with tunes, ranging from classical to contemporary, from the well-known melodies to own compositions. A one-way transfer to the festival is included, and with your entry pass still valid for the rest of the evening, it again will be a memorable evening. Food and drinks during this evening are on your own expenses, as well the transfer back from the jazz grounds to your overnight address.

No dinner included.
