4 Days Exquisite Experiences in Beijing
4 Days Exquisite Experiences
Imperial treatments at an iconic sanctuary, complemented with gastronomical treats of the local kind
WHY THIS TOUR?
Although Beijing’s best-known dish is Peking Duck, we go deep into the Hutongs in search of less famed culinary delights that are predominantly enjoyed by Beijingers. Most of the city’s leading dishes have been adopted from surrounding areas such as Hebei, Shandong and Xinjiang. These influences are now fully ingrained in Beijing life and we will introduce our guests to specialities such as the jaded door-nail meat pie, a wondrous combination packed with base ingredients of pork, green onion and sesame oil.
Our tours ensure guests can sit shoulder-to-shoulder with locals to enjoy previously unfamiliar food from the Forbidden City. But falling back on a sanctum of peace and tranquillity in all this hustle and bustle and exploring the finer culinary side of China’s roaring capital is just what Aman has created with its Aman Summer Palace. It is three nights of Imperial opulence, immersed into every aspect and design of one of China’s most distinguished properties around.

Beijing [B, D]
With the smell of freshly prepared breakfast drawing you to Aman’s ambience for a delicious start of the day, your day could not commence on a better note. Staff elegantly moving to cater to your needs, the indulgence in the finer side of East-Meets-West transformed in the first meal of the day imbues what lies ahead.
Without any doubt, Beijing has grown by leaps and bounds since it became the capital in the Jin Dynasty. Little of that time has been kept but awe-inspiring monuments such as the Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City have kept the traditional way Beijing is so well-known for. It is these monuments and sights that keep Beijing bound to its rich and unsurpassable history at times that modern China grows at an incredible pace. It is these contrasts that has given the Chinese capital such a dominant place in Asian travel movements.
With its excellent location nearby the East Gates of the Beijing’s Summer Palace, Aman’s representation in the Chinese capital forms the perfect base to explore the city’s imperial magnificence within walking distance. The vastness of the complex, its heritage and characteristics in architecture and design formed the foundation of Aman Summer Palace. This sanctuary is an eloquent example of preserving the historical foundation of Greater China during its dynasties. Guests will find themselves intrigued with the eye for detail, almost waiting for an invitation to meet the Empress.
Lunch will be on own arrangement. The venues for getting your taste buds tantalized inside the Aman Summer Palace are sound examples of staying true to the varieties of Chinese cuisine, as served so elegantly at its Chinese restaurant. In for a more western or perhaps Japanese treat before lounging until the local dining experience commences? It is all within easy reach of your graciously-decorated guest room.
With the sun slowly moving further in westward direction, the evening plans for an exquisite experience are set to guide you through the ancient quarters of Beijing. Once the home of residents of stature, politicians and influential families, the Hutongs of Beijing are a testimony of how the elite lived along a myriad of alleys and gates with some true culinary surprises around every corner. It is the latter that forms the basis for our evening out and about.
Hutongs were mostly built during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties. The narrow network of lanes created by closely built quadrangular homes form the décor for our local food exploration. The only clue to their presence are the wooden gates that often have ornate carved characters intended to bring good fortune to the house owner and his trade. The size and style of gate denoted the owner’s wealth and social rank. By Tuk Tuk, you’re meandering through one of these quarters, meeting the locals and finding yourself sitting shoulder to shoulder at hidden eateries. During the course of the evening, 5 unique and surprisingly delectable dishes fill your need to explore the exquisite experiences of Beijing. Before the night comes to an end, there is no better place to end this culinary endeavour with a locally crafted beer.
