A Bangkok Visit for a Better Existence
A Bangkok Visit
for a Better Existence
The demand for responsible tourism projects has been on the forefront of new, sustainably
conscious travel. We follow the work of a leading foundation at one of Bangkok’s
underdeveloped region and a donation to this good cause is included.
WHY THIS TOUR?
Overshadowed by the alluring landscape of shopping, luxury and comfort lies an often hardened reality overlooked by many yet never forgotten by a few; the Klong Toey district in Bangkok has long been seen where a strong community feeling thrives.
Seen as one of the poorest regions in downtown Bangkok, the work done by the volunteers of the Duang Prateep Foundation is keeping the morale high and the smile continuously brightening up the often dilapidated housing conditions. With this tour, we will take you into an underprivileged part of Bangkok where a foundation works closely with authorities to provide better living standards for its inhabitants.
08:30 - 12:00
Your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel at around 8:30 am and transfer you to the starting point of a memorable journey through the hidden parts of the Klong Toey district in the heart of Bangkok. This area has been in existence for over 50 years and is home to many rural migrants from Northeast Thailand, seeking new career opportunities in the capital.
Walking through the narrow alleys and along their homes, one will immediately see that most have the basic necessities such as electricity and gas while only a few have been able to afford more modern amenities. Part of this tour is to see and get up-and-close with the work that the Duang Prateep Foundation has been initiated. The foundation has formed to provide help and support to assist the least fortunate in terms of community development and education to the children of this part of Bangkok. During this morning, you will get an overview of the projects in place and a more detailed description of the goals that this non-government organization has set itself.
Visitors will get the chance to interact with children at their local school (closed during weekends, public and school holidays). The schools are following the curriculum of the Montessori style of learning and get to know them better during their hands-on lessons. Before leaving, you will have the opportunity to help the teachers serve the children their lunch after which it will be time to bid farewell to your new-found ‘friends’.
An eye-opening experience is one not to miss and aims to counter the negative image and increase understanding of the hardship in these Bangkok communities. A donation of 500 Baht per person will be donated to the Duang Prateep Foundation in your name.
We leave Klong Toey and drive you back to your hotel, where you will return at around 12:30 pm.
