TRAIL ITINERARY

Day 1 of 2 Days | 1 Night Adventure in Siem Reap and Angkor

Day 1

 SIEM REAP                                                                                                                        [-/L/-]

In line with the program, customers are strongly advised to spend the night prior to the start of this package in Siem Reap

An early morning departure from your accommodation in Siem Reap signals the start of a day of family-filled exploration. Together with your guide and driver, we head into the Angkor Archaeological Park and head straight for the famous Bayon Temple with the nearby Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King. Armed with a camera or your mobile telephone, it is the tasks for the family to head out on a photo hunt and find the 10 spots, hidden in and around these three impressive sights of the Angkor Thom area. Each team will be handed over a small booklet, pinpointing where to look and return triumphantly. Staying true to the definition of adventure, a more exiting start of the day is not possible.

Your (team) efforts are not in vain; a nearby local temple forms the background for a blessing and award ceremony after completing this quest through hundreds of years of history. Blessing ceremonies by monks make up an important part in the daily lives of Cambodians, and the sense of achievement is rewarded with a small gift.

Lunch is served at a local wooden Khmer house near the Royal Baths of Sra Srang, right in the heart of the Angkor Archaeological Park.

After lunch, we leave the otherworldly landscape that is Angkor behind us and make way into the authentic heart of Siem Reap – the countryside. The Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity (ACCB) stands for preservation of wildlife and biodiversity in Cambodia to educating the general public about the importance of keeping the natural scales in balance. From wildlife rescue, conservation, breeding and reintroduction of endangered species to environmental education and research, it is particularly the children that will have a first-hand approach to what wildlife protection is all about and the role they can play in wildlife conservation in the future.

Continue with the visit of Banteay Srei Temple, the fabled pink temple of women, so called because it is made of pink sandstone and considered a tribute to the beauty of women. Its small size, delicate carvings and remarkable state of preservation makes it one of everyone’s favourite temples that even children will love to discover. On the road back to Siem Reap, stop at the Banteay Srei Butterfly Center (BBC). It is the largest butterfly enclosure of South East Asia. Children will discover a netted tropical garden sheltering thousands of free-flying butterflies, all natives from Cambodia, with possibility to interact with them and witness their complete cycle of life.

From here, you will return back to your booked accommodation in Siem Reap.

No dinner included on this day, on own arrangement

Transfer to enjoy a spectacular night out at the Phare The Cambodian Circus where every night the performers tell a Cambodian story while using dance, music, theatre and acrobatics. All the young and talented artists come from the Phare Ponleu Selpak school in Battambang, that stimulate students to be their best version, bringing to Siem Reap even more energetic and unique performances. An enchanting performance that adults and children will not forget.

Day 2

SIEM REAP                                                                                                                        [B/L/D]

Breakfast is included at your hotel for the whole family

Departure by Tuk Tuk to discover the might Angkor Wat Temple. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century, Angkor Wat is constructed following the model of the temple mountain symbolizing Mount Meru, the home of the gods. Inside the temple, the walls are covered with stone carvings and bas-reliefs depicting Hindu mythology and the wars Suryavarman II fought during his reign. Angkor Wat is well known for the more than 2,000 Apsara dancers decorating the temple. Construction is thought to have taken around thirty years of intensive labour. Today, Angkor Wat is figured on Cambodia’s national flag as the temple symbolizes the soul of the Khmer people.

Onward we go and to one of the temples that has turned Angkor into a Hollywood character. The Ta Prohm is the temple that has been left largely in its natural state since its “re-discovery” by French explorers. Surrounded by jungle, its labyrinth of stone hallways is overgrown with the roots and limbs of massive banyan trees, which envelop the stone like tentacles. It is the perfect lost-temple-in-the-jungle where strangler figs and kapok trees entwine themselves around the ruins of the temple for more than enough photo moments.

Lunch is included at a local restaurant.

After lunch, it is time to get your adrenaline pumping! Flying through and above Siem Reap’s canopy is an adrenaline inducing attraction in which participants zip down cables connected to tree houses and elevated wooden platforms. The facility has been created with limiting as much damage as possible to the environment, setting sustainable standards from the moment, platforms and the cables and the whole structure was erected in the heart of the Siem Reap jungle. An amazing view over the jungle’s canopy that normally is only reserved for local wildlife and birds that suits all ages. As part of the sustainable approach from the operators of this Zipline attraction, visitors will gain knowledge about the eco-system of this unique part of Cambodia by following in the footsteps of a local guide on a light, recreational hike through the forest.

At the end of the afternoon, we complete our family day at an organic farm where you will attend a cooking class. You will learn how to cook real Cambodian cuisine and gain insight into Khmer culinary culture with the enthusiasm talented local chef and his team. Families will have a guided tour of the organic farm with the chef and will pick their own fresh vegetables and ingredient to use during their cooking class. Learn to make your own full Khmer menu with one starter, one main course and one dessert, ending with a tasting of your own prepared dishes for dinner.
