An Introduction to Khmer Cuisine

An Introduction to
Khmer Cuisine

Traditional Khmer cuisine is not only tasty, but it is also easy to make. An introduction to the
art of Cambodia cuisine will give you not only the insights in the ingredients but also
spices up your knowledge of cooking Khmer-style upon your return home.

WHY THIS TOUR?

Food is culture, and this saying is something that is engrained in the DNA of every Khmer national. From the tiniest corners of quaint little villages to the teeming-with-life main cities, food is culture. Based on using locally sourced produce, the Khmer cuisine has ample characteristics that share its gastronomical borders with its South-East Asian neighbours. Yet, once you’re had a spoon full of deliciousness, it is well understood that a unique foodie paradise lies wedged between Laos, Thailand and Vietnam.

To gain an insight into the ingredients and means of preparation, a half-day instruction in the art of Khmer cooking will stimulate all senses. We have partnered up with one of Siem Reap’s leading cooking schools to offer you a fabulous experience you later can share with friends and family.

TRAIL ITINERARY

An Introduction to Khmer Cuisine

09:30 - 13:00
-
15:30 - 18:00

You’ll be picked up in either in the morning or in the afternoon and transfer to the cooking school in the heart of Siem Reap. Upon arrival, a warm welcome by your teachers for the day signals a couple of hours of cooking fun at a well-respected cooking school. This fun experience will become even more enjoyable with this team of enthusiastic foodies who will be there to guide you through all the steps. An explanation about the traditional ingredients is included before the pots and pans are taken out, and you’ll see fresh ingredients being turned into delicious Khmer dishes. You do not require having any cooking experience during this half-day as local professionals and food connoisseurs will be standing by, explaining every step carefully before presenting your dishes to your fellow master chefs.

At the end of the half-day, it is tasting time. This is the chance to share the result with your fellow cooking colleagues over lunch (dinner when you opt for the afternoon class) and get a taste of what everybody has prepared.  Taking home the recipes is a given as a manual to turn your newly taught skills into reality when back in your country of residence.

After experiencing your cooked meal, the Khmer way, your driver will bring you back to your hotel with a bag full of excellent memories and ideas to cook something Khmer upon your return back home. The fun, smiles and talks about what’s been cooking for the past hours will linger on indefinitely once you have arrived back.
