TRAIL ITINERARY
08:00 - 15:00
As soon as we head off to our meeting point in a rural part in western Bali, you will see the landscape changes. It is the start of a full-day introduction to Balinese daily life. Tunjuk is one of these local communities that keep its traditions as much alive as possible. Like with other communities, the compound concept is also represented here – all the buildings in the village are constructed carefully in line with age-old traditions. Measurements and guidelines such as the length of a priest’s arm or the positioning versus the location of the sacred Mount Agung may seem strange for outsiders but for these residents; this is of the greatest importance to keep the evil spirits out.
Before lunch is served at a Balinese house, there will be ample time to wander around Tunjuk, see how local life moves on at a leisurely pace, and accept a friendly welcome for a mingle with the locals. It is not uncommon to see the children of this traditional village play at the communal compound. The fun really starts when you respectfully take part in their games. We follow a small path into the rice paddy fields and arrive at a communal farm to learn various stages of rice cultivation and join the people in rice planting. This fun activity is giving an interactive insight into what goes on in rice planting and all this with a spectacular view over Mount Agung.
After cleaning up of improving your rice planting techniques, a short walk through what has been our playing ground brings you to the acrobats of the region. Skilled, lean locals have perfected the art of coconut harvesting by climbing effortlessly into trees to pluck these for consumption. There is nothing better than the taste of a young coconut. Demonstrations in preparing cassava are completed with a lunch at our base before your driver will transfer you back to your hotel in southern Bali and Ubud, where you expect to arrive at around 3 pm.
