Ecological cooking lessons
at Mahob Farm

Perfectly filling the gap between expanding one’s cooking skills and using only organic ingredients;
Siem Reap’s Mahob Farm has set the trend in blending healthy cuisine with delectable dishes.
A short master course with the finest chefs in the region.

The Khmer cuisine has long been overshadowed by the popularity of its northern neighbour, Thailand, although sharing similar preparation techniques. Flavourful and blending vegetables and spices into delectable dishes, cooking classes that stay true to authentic cuisine and with a hands-on approach for participants remain still in a league of their own.

A new cooking experience adds even an ecological side to preparing Khmer food dishes by using organic ingredients straight out of their own garden. The people behind Mahob Farm, a short ride from Siem Reap centre, love to share the biological approach to cooking delectable dishes. Choose between a morning of an afternoon session for upgrading your kitchen techniques with adding some Khmer flavours to your culinary repertoire.

Customers can choose between a morning session or an afternoon cooking class with transfers included from your central Siem Reap hotel. The Mahob Farm is situated around 3 kilometres outside the town centre. The unique side of this farm is that it is specialized in heirloom varietals: seasonal fruits and vegetables are growing without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or growth hormones. The farm will be able to adjust its classes depending on what’s in season and therefore guaranteeing fresh produce.

After an introduction from the chef, you will visit the farm’s own vegetable garden, to learn about the local ingredients and fresh produce grown in the area. Your chef of the morning will explain carefully where to look for when picking the elements for a good Khmer dish. Return to the restaurant to begin your cooking adventure, which will become your lunch in the end. Not only the use of spices and herbs are explained, also how to cut and prepare the different ingredients spices and vegetables are part of this course. During these hours, the culinary team will also teach you history of cooking Cambodian dishes and its influence from the neighbouring countries. At the end of the class, the moment of truth arrives when you have to sink your teeth in your own creation and those of your fellow master chefs.
