Explore! A Day
as a Rice Farmer
Rice is life in Thailand and the process to get this from the grounds onto your plate is an
arduous process that has been turned into a fulfilled, hands-on full day tour option.
Meet the locals for a full day of rice farming and fruit plantation visits.
WHY THIS TOUR?
Asia’s stable food is the source for many of Thailand’s flavourful dishes – we’re talking of course about rice. The country’s almost insatiable desire for this tiny grain has gazetted many Thai menus up until today and its taste, grain size and colour has made Thailand one of the world experts in rice cultivation. A good harvest depends on a lot of factors, be it weather, soil and proper nourishment by farmers where a regular twice-a-year harvest provides ample stock for national consumption and international export.
Step by step, guests are introduced in the world of rice cultivation at one of the rural regions within the vicinity of Bangkok’s metropolitan charism. Your fruit of labour on this tour may end up one day on your plate, so the challenge with a good dose of fun and educational value, is yours to explore.

TRAIL ITINERARY

Right after breakfast at your hotel in Bangkok, meet your English speaking guide and other participants on this full day tour lauds in a day of fun-filled activity, built around rice. To gain access to the local wetlands and agricultural region, we have to leave the big city and move into the rural areas. Taking main and back roads, you soon will surround yourself with an overflow of local immersion, where green and local villages form the décor of your endeavours to get an insight in rice farming. Upon arrival at a local village, home of some of the country’s experts in rice planting, harvesting and drying, you will immediately become a part of the community.
See how life moves on in a steady, slow pace as you prepare yourself for a day out in the fields. It is all hands-on from now – learning to work a plough, plant the rice strain at the right depths by hand, and learn the rice growing process until harvesting comes into play. A simple lunch at the village is included – one that requires you to roll up your sleeves and assist cooking local Thai food.
After a short intro in Thai cooking by the village residence, we head out to another source of income for the region and another sample of deliciousness, frequently associated with Thailand. Thai fruits are growing in abundance around the villages and you will witness how these plantations are tended with care and respect. Finally, before making your way back to Bangkok, you learn all about the involvement of the Late King Rama 9 in pursuing a self-sustainable economic model via agriculture. Via Thailand’s longest cement dam, we make our way back into city life and your accommodation in Bangkok.
