TRAIL ITINERARY
Day 1
Surabaya – Mount Bromo [-]
Warmly welcomed by our local representative at either Surabaya’s international airport or at one of the downtown hotels, it is the start of an existing 2 days’ exploration of one of Indonesia’s most iconic natural landmarks. Surabaya, the capital of East Java is a vibrant, sprawling metropolis, which mixes modern skyscrapers with canals and buildings from its Dutch colonial past and it has a thriving Chinatown and an Arab Quarter. Although just as interesting as many can confirm, we leave the city centre without sightseeing and head out in the direction of Mount Bromo.
The journey starts with a scenic drive to the Tosari Village with some possible stops on the route for photos. The authentic hues of Java flow in abundance through this drive.
With lunch and dinner on own arrangement on this day, today is the time to settle in and explore the culinary delights. On a clear day, our goal for this 2-day journey may be visible.
No dinner included
Overnight is inside the Tosari Village.
Day 2
Mount Bromo – Surabaya [B]
A very early morning departure (4 am) marks the journey to see one of Java’s most breathtaking natural monuments arising from the east. From the Tosari Village, you depart to Penanjakan, where you will be witnessing the most awesome sunrise (if weather permits) one can imagine.
The trip continues to cross the sand-sea plains around the volcano to reach the foot of Mount Bromo as the starting point to climb up the stairs to the crater. The spectacular view of the range of volcanoes (Bromo, Batok and Semeru) is unveiled along with the rise of the morning sun.
This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a vast volcanic region covering an area of 800 sq-km in East Java. Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is home to Mount Bromo standing at 2,329 metres drawing in people from across the globe to observe the sunrise from the mountain. Four volcanic cones, Mount Batok, Mount Kursi, Mount Watangan and Mount Widodaren, add to this eerie landscape that has given rise to countless legends and myths, but the park is also teeming with nature with 226 orchid species and 260 medicinal and ornamental plants.
People with limited mobility can ride up to the top on horseback (optional and depending on availability). Various viewing points to soak in the almost magical landscape surrounding Mount Bromo are available. During public holidays and peak season periods, larger crowds to watch the sunrise are to be expected.
Afterwards, we drive back to the hotel for breakfast and refreshments before driving to either Surabaya Airport for your onward flight or return to your hotel in Surabaya.
