On 17 August 2015, at approximately 7.00pm /1900 hrs local time, a large explosion was reported in the heart of Bangkok at the Chidlom District nearby the famous Erawan Shrine, a famous tourism attraction visited by hundred tourists and Buddhists each day. Media reports indicate that approximately twenty people have been killed at least 80 more may have been injured due to the blast. Reports state that the cause of the explosion have been related to a bomb.

Asian Trails would like to confirm that first reports show that none of our clients and/or colleagues (including drivers and guides) were in the vicinity. We also can confirm that at the time of the explosion, Asian Trails Thailand had no excursions and / or transfers near the Erawan Shrine, right next to the Ratchaprasong Intersection. According to official channels, we can now confirm that the Thai government will not declare a state of emergency in relation to this incident.

We strongly recommend all customers to avoid the affected area until further notice. Asian Trails can confirm that other popular tourism centres in the capital are safe. Our Asian Trails team is in touch with all customers in Bangkok in assuring that Bangkok remains safe and to avoid the area around the explosion until we receive official confirmation from local government bodies that the area is safe.

We will continue to co-ordinate with the local authorities to get the latest information and all tour operators that may be potentially affected by this incident will be contacted separately in order to facilitate alternative tour and travel arrangements. Please be assured that the safety of our clients is our number one priority and we will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as soon as we get them.
