Bangkok received a lot of Media attention lately due to the heavy floods covering large areas North and Northwest of the city. It is true that many hundreds of major factories and tens of thousands of houses were badly inundated during the past few weeks. However, it is also a fact that downtown Bangkok, the main temples, the hotels and shopping areas in the central business district have remained dry. Suvarnabhumi Intl. Airport is fully open and ASIAN TRAILS operate transfers and even the City and Temples tour without problems. All upcountry destinations like Pattaya, Hua Hin, Samui, Krabi, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai etc. function normally.
In fact, our main problem right now is a distortion of facts by the Media, particularly when watching CNN, BBC and TV5 etc., which make you believe that the whole of Bangkok is under water! I allow myself to include below a Caricature from yesterday’s “The Nation” plus a photo of the Grand Palace entrance taken by the undersigned at noon on MON 31 Oct 2011 – with no floods in sight!
So please encourage potential visitors to come and spend the year-end holidays in Thailand, which is magical at this time of the year with its festivities and special events.
The other destinations in ASIAN TRAILS’ network have also drawn up interesting tours and events, especially to celebrate Christmas, bid adieu to 2011 and usher in 2012. This is the best time to be in colourful, vibrant Asia.
You will find details on our latest products and services in this issue of TRAILBLAZER (November-December 2011), plus the latest update on the situation in Thailand.
