Safeguarding Laos’ unique tribal heritage

An institution of immense importance for the preservation of Laos’ unique cultural heritage –the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre (TAEC) is the country’s sole learning facility focused on indigenous groups. A fascinating collection of art, handicrafts and tools reveals age-old traditions and ethnic tribes’ adaption to the modern world.

This is portrayed through professionally curated permanent and special exhibitions, events and craft workshops. Exploration of this engaging and culturally rich educational site is included on many of Asian Trails’ excursions in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Luang Prabang – the country’s biggest tourism destination.

Visitors can buy handcrafted products created by over 20 ethnic communities, including wood carvings, accessories, textiles and jewellery, with all revenue aiding ongoing community development.
