Digital immigration pilot phase launched
On 1 September 2025, the Lao Government launched a pilot digital immigration system for travellers arriving and departing at selected international checkpoints. This initiative aims to streamline border procedures by replacing traditional paper-based immigration cards with a simplified digital process.
During the pilot phase, travellers entering or departing Laos via one of the four designated locations will be required to complete an online immigration form within three days prior to travel. The pilot checkpoints include: Luang Prabang International Airport, Wattay International Airport (Vientiane), Pakse International Airport and the First Lao–Thai Friendship Bridge (Vientiane–Nong Khai).
Travellers who are unable to complete the form in advance may do so on-site upon arrival.
Upon completing the form, travellers will receive a QR code, which they must present to the immigration officer, either saved on a mobile device or as a printed copy.
A nationwide rollout of the digital system is planned for 1 January 2026.
Asian Trails remains ready to assist and provide guidance for partners and travellers during the arrival and departure registration process. However, our team members are not able to submit forms on behalf of guests due to privacy regulations.
As this is a pilot scheme, procedures may be subject to change. Travellers are advised to check the official immigration website prior to travel for the latest updates.
