Hanoi heritage sites closed for restoration
Three significant heritage sites in Hanoi’s Old Quarter have been temporarily closed for restoration as part of Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to preserve its rich cultural heritage under the national Law on Cultural Heritage.
The closures, effective from now, affect Quan De Temple, an important spiritual site for the Chinese-Vietnamese community – closed until 1 February 2026; The Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Centre, known for exhibitions on local traditions and daily life – closed until 21 November 2025; and the Heritage House at 87 Ma May Street, a rare and beautifully preserved example of 19th century Hanoian architecture – closed until 26 April 2026.
Asian Trails Vietnam encourages partners to amend tour itineraries with alternative sites that offer equally rich insights into the capital’s cultural fabric. These include Bach Ma Temple, one of Hanoi’s oldest temples, dating back to the 11th century; Kim Ngan Communal House, previously a hub for Hanoi’s goldsmith guild; and Huong Tuong Temple, a shrine which offers a glimpse into the city’s enduring spiritual traditions.
