Trailblazing the North’s hidden gems
Bui Viet Thuy Tien, Managing Director for Asian Trails Laos and Vietnam, recently joined Saita Kiatikhema, Business Development Manager for Asian Trails Laos, on an exploratory journey to uncover new and inspiring travel experiences in Northern Laos.
The region has immense potential for tourism, with its diverse landscapes, rich cultural tapestry and authentic encounters waiting to be discovered.
Their journey began with a stay at Namkat Yorla Pa Resort, a distinctive luxury eco-retreat nestled in the rainforests of Oudomxay beside the Nam Kat River. The resort also houses Laos’ only biodiversity museum, providing an engaging introduction to the area’s natural and cultural heritage.
From Oudomxay, the team travelled by road to Muang Khua, where they embarked on a scenic long-tail boat journey to Nong Khiaw. During the river exploration, they visited several minority villages, gaining valuable insights into the traditions and daily lives of local ethnic communities.
In Nong Khiaw, highlights included visits to the war museum, a sacred cave and a Tai Lu village renowned for its traditional cotton weaving. Along the way, they experienced the charming hospitality of Resort Maison de Nong Khiaw as well as Phaxang Resort, which was recently upgraded with a pool overlooking spectacular river and mountain views.
