An eco-river cruise in Malacca, Malaysia

Home to scenic mangrove forests and rural enclaves, Malacca is a haven for nature lovers on Malaysia’s south-west coast. Once an important trading hub, the provincial capital is a colourful port with a dynamic and storied past, where the British, Dutch and Portuguese left their marks in the city’s historical churches, towers and forts.

Beyond the heritage city, the province of Malacca is home to an abundance of native flora and fauna, offering visitors a chance to encounter the nation’s natural habitats and biodiversity. We recommend hopping into a boat and embarking on a river cruise adventure where you can look out for birds, monkeys and crocodiles, as well as a variety of plant life.

Along the way, experience traditional life in a small community and visit a charcoal factory that has been in operation for over 100 years. Further along the river, the boat passes mysterious antiquities such as old water wells, walls and pillars of buildings that offer a window into the past and a sense of the lives that where once lived here.
