Cycling through a cultural wonderland
Eco-friendly cycling is a highly recommended way to discover the cultural and natural highlights of Southern Laos. This sustainable mode of transport enables guests to engage more closely and authentically with both the landscape and local communities.
Asian Trails is pleased to introduce a new two-wheeled adventure that showcases the historic and agricultural heritage of Champasak and its rural surroundings. The carefully designed route winds through seasonal rice fields and traditional villages, offering a genuine insight into everyday rural life in this remote part of the country.

Set against a backdrop of lush greenery, ancient temples and traces of French colonial heritage, the journey leads to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wat Phou.
This remarkable spiritual complex, with origins dating back to the 5th century, predates Cambodia’s renowned Angkor Wat and was once an important centre of the Khmer Empire. Today, it captivates visitors with its impressive stone structures and evocative sacred relics.

The cycling excursion can be tailored to suit individual client preferences. A support vehicle is available for those wishing to rest from cycling or to extend the journey further.
Optional extensions include exploring communities along the Mekong River or visiting Muang Kang Temple, the oldest active temple in Champasak, known for its distinctive Thai-style Buddhist ordination hall and Tripitaka Library reflecting Lao, Chinese and Vietnamese architectural influences.
