Weaving a better future for artisans

Following fair trade practices to the letter, the founders behind Bali’s Threads of Life have expanded their social enterprise across Indonesia.

With over 1,000 weavers registered with the not-for-profit organisation, Threads of Life’s mission is flourishing in 35 cooperatives across 12 islands. The base is a retail gallery on the ‘Island of the Gods’ where the principles of using local materials, natural dyes and traditional designs is a vibrant pillar of this sustainable initiative. The heirloom-quality textiles and baskets help local artisans secure a living wage, create independent cooperatives, manage resources more sustainably and safeguard indigenous cultural practices.
