New era in aviation with airport opening

History will be made in Cambodia on 9th September 2025 as the country’s new international airport becomes operational. An official inauguration ceremony will be held on 20th October 2025.

The new Techo International Airport is located 19 km south of the capital, Phnom Penh. Construction began in January 2020, with an estimated investment of US$1.5 billion, excluding land acquisition costs.

It is classified as a ‘greenfield’ airport, situated on a previously undeveloped 26 sq-km site in Kandal province. It has received a 4F rating – the highest classification for international airports – and is among the world’s largest. It can accommodate the biggest aircraft, including the Airbus A380.

Techo has been designed with sustainability features to make it a ‘green’ airport. This includes a photovoltaic farm for solar energy generation, rainwater harvesting to reduce water use and a terminal built to maximise natural lighting and minimise reliance on artificial sources.

It is being developed in three phases and is expected to handle up to 45 million passengers annually after 2050. For more information or to plan a journey, contact Asian Trails Cambodia
