Pedalling for a purpose in Khao Lak
Asian Trails has introduced two new premium cycling excursions in Khao Lak, offering travellers a fresh way to discover Southern Thailand beyond its beaches while making a positive contribution to children’s futures.
Blending scenic rides, cultural encounters and soft adventure, the experiences bring together active exploration and responsible tourism in Phang Nga Province. The Half-Day Khao Lak Old Town Cycling Adventure traces a route through peaceful countryside to Takua Pa, where the region’s history and community spirit take centre stage.

At the Ban Nam Khem Tsunami Memorial and Museum, travellers learn about the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the resilience of communities that rebuilt their lives in its aftermath. In Takua Pa Old Town, colourful Sino-Portuguese shophouses tell the story of the prosperity brought by the historic tin-mining boom. The route also takes in the Golden Pagoda and the iconic Iron Bridge, with a Thai lunch rounding off the excursion.
For a different kind of adventure, the Half-Day Khao Lak Ride & Raft Experience combines wildlife conservation, cycling and Thai cuisine. A visit to the Royal Thai Navy Sea Turtle Conservation Centre introduces the work involved in protecting sea turtles, from egg incubation to hatchling care. From there, a 10-km cycle through agricultural landscapes and local villages leads into a peaceful bamboo rafting journey, followed by a hands-on Thai cooking class showcasing the country’s distinctive flavours.

A meaningful contribution is built into both experiences. Proceeds help support a charitable organisation dedicated to improving the lives of children across Thailand through safe and nurturing homes, education and opportunities for greater independence. Having raised more than THB 660 million over two decades, the organisation continues to invest in brighter futures for marginalised children.

Beyond the two join-in excursions, customised cycling challenges can also be arranged for corporate events and special occasions, offering further opportunities to combine active experiences with positive social impact.
With these additions, Asian Trails expands Khao Lak’s excursion offering with experiences that go beyond sightseeing, connecting travellers with the region’s heritage, natural environment and communities, while helping make a lasting difference.
