Cruise to Pak Ou Caves
A river cruise provides us with a different perspective of the countryside surrounding Luang Prabang. We will be picked up from our hotel by tuk-tuk and transferred to the pier to embark on a traditional boat cruise on the Mekong River. We will delve into Luang Prabang’s rich spirituality and heritage with a boat journey to the sacred caves of Pak Ou. These are dedicated to the river spirit and Buddha. They are situated within limestone cliffs where the Mekong and Nam Ou Rivers converge. On the way, we stop to visit a village where traditional weaving and rice wine distillation are an essential part of the local peoples’ daily activities. Lunch is at a local restaurant near the caves. We then visit Tham Ting and Tham Theung caves, both of which are filled with thousands of Buddha images and statues left over the centuries by devotees. After absorbing this amazing site, we re-board the boat and make a stop on our return journey at Ban Xang Khong. This is home to a community that creates exquisite handicrafts from paper. On arrival back in the town, we transfer back to the hotel by tuk-tuk.

- Duration: 8 hours, with departure at 8 am;

Even when it is cloudy, the sun still has an immense power;
- All mentioned times, durations and stops are based on approximations and may change due to unforeseen circumstances, weather and traffic conditions beyond our control.
