Half Day Mangrove & Irrawaddy Dolphin Watching Cruise
Catch a glimpse of the Irrawaddy dolphins on a cruise on the Santubong River and the Salak River Delta which flow into the South China Sea. The heavily silted mangrove swamp is a haven for inhabitants, ranging from reptilians to crustaceans and fishes, crocodiles, water monitor lizards, otters, mud skippers, mangrove crabs, prawns, edible jellyfish and shellfish.
The swamp sustains many different tree species, the most important being the black and red mangroves, locally known as bakau, or bako which is used for piling in construction and is also processed as charcoal. The Irrawaddy or Snubfin Dolphin inhabit the rivers, estuaries and shallow coastal areas and the Santubong area remains one of the best places in Sarawak to view this unusual looking marine mammal who often frolic near local fishing boats that are hauling in their catch. Afterwards we return to the boat club to transfer to our hotel.
Route
- Duration: 3 hours, with departure at 8.45 am;
- Boat is arranged on sharing basis only;
- Dolphins, crocodiles and fireflies are wild creatures and therefore sightings cannot be guaranteed, although we usually enjoy a high success rate;
- This trail programme is operated daily on shared basis with English speaking assistance or with separate licenced guide.
- Cancellation & No-Show Policy:
- Within 9 days or less = 25% from the total charges;
- Within 7 days or less = 50% from the total charges;
- Within 5 days or less = 75% from the total charges;
- Within 3 days or less & No-Show = 100% from the total charges.
- Child rate (age 3-11 years old): 80% of adult rate based on respective pax range with minimum 2 paying adults. 2 years and below is considered as an infant and will be free of charge.
- Seat-in-Coach tours operate daily with English-speaking guide; minimum 2 pax per group unless stated otherwise; pick-up from Damai areas will incur additional surcharge.
- Tours and transfers with English-speaking assistance;
- Transportation for tour and transfers by air-conditioned vehicle, unless otherwise stated;
- All applicable taxes and service charges.
