Discover ancient burial sites, unwind in natural jungle pools, and drift along the Danum River on a tubing experience.

Day-to-Day Itinerary

Discover Borneo’s rich rainforest at the Danum Valley Conservation Area, Sabah’s largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp forest that is preserved for conservation, research and education purposes. Leaving early, we fly to Lahad Datu on the east coast of Sabah. Upon arrival, we transfer overland two-and-half hours to the Borneo Rainforest Lodge located situated beside the Danum River. The Borneo Eden is home to a wealth of tree species, some of which are the oldest, tallest and most diverse in the world.

In the afternoon, we watch a slide presentation about the locality, ahead of setting out for an afternoon trek into the jungle that is home to a myriad of animal life including orangutans, silver and red leaf monkeys, Asian elephants, tarsiers and slow loris. Our route follows the Nature Trail, and the treetop Canopy Walk to get a different perspective of the rainforest. In the evening, we embark on a night drive in an open-air jeep in search of nocturnal animals. Lunch and dinner are at the lodge.

Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Our jungle exploration continues as we spend the day trekking, tubing and relaxing in a natural jacuzzi pool. After breakfast, we trek to Coffin Cliff to visit the ancient burial site where wooden coffins are wedged along the cliff side before proceeding to the viewpoint to get a bird’s-eye view of the area.

Next, we descend to the jacuzzi pool for a refreshing dip and then return to the lodge. In the afternoon, we embark on a jungle trek and then enjoy a relaxing tubing session down the Danum River as we cruise on large inflatable rubber ring. Weather permitting, in the evening we embark on a night walk in search of nocturnal animals. Lunch and dinner are at the lodge.

Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

The morning is free to spend at our leisure exploring the area after breakfast at the lodge.

After lunch at the lodge, we check-out around 12.30pm and transfer to Lahad Datu Airport for our domestic flight to Kota Kinabalu.
