Baci ritual to promote good health
Visitors to the cultural destination of Luang Prabang can participate in a baci ceremony, a ritual performed to ensure good health.
Laotians believe a human body is a union of 32 organs with a spirit for protection. These spirits often wander outside the body causing an unbalance of the soul which might induce ill-health. During the baci, the tying of white string around the wrist represents the binding of 32 spirits to the body to ensure harmony, good luck and prosperity.
This is usually performed before major events, such as weddings or births. The venue for this tradition is a 100-year old house, with the option to enjoy lunch or dinner in this charming establishment.
