Jungle adventures in Northern Laos
Blending nature, culture and soft adventure, Northern Laos is a destination of choice for inspiring and distinctive events.
Appealing to nature enthusiasts, eco-conscious travellers, culturally curious groups or those simply seeking a peaceful retreat, the region offers an idyllic escape and a unique opportunity to experience Laos’ rich and diverse flora and fauna first-hand.
For multi-day programmes, Namkat Yorla Pa Resort serves as an ideal base. Set within a protected forest in Oudomxay province, the resort provides a striking backdrop for team building, incentive programmes and other corporate events.
Access to the protected area – which is home to jungle trails, canopy walks and dramatic waterfalls – is managed through the FACET (Forestry Area Conservation Ecological Tourism) initiative, which, in collaboration with Asian Trails, can arrange memorable guided excursions for delegates, adding a special touch to any event. Options include jungle treks, rainforest walks and culturally focused activities tailored for groups interested in sustainability, discovery and authentic local engagement.
The resort’s comfortably furnished rooms are set alongside the tranquil Yorla Pa River, while the outdoor pool, restaurant, bar and spa create a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. Adjacent to the property is a reconstructed Khamu ethnic village, where groups can engage in hands-on cultural experiences such as cooking classes or a traditional baci ceremony held around a bonfire.
Recommended programme
Take the high-speed train from Luang Prabang to Oudomxay (approximately one hour), then continue by road to the national protected area, about 20 km away. Upon arrival, we settle into our wonderful accommodation and take in the serene natural surroundings before the evening’s activities.
We will be welcomed with a traditional baci ceremony at the Khamu ethnic village. This meaningful ritual is performed to offer blessings of welcome, safe travels and good health.
We then enjoy dinner at the resort’s delightful restaurant.
Overnight is at the resort.
After breakfast, we prepare for a full day’s exploration. We begin with a visit to the first biodiversity museum of Laos where we discover the flora and fauna of the national protected area and then continue with a scenic trek through the jungle, crossing the canopy walk and continuing along the via ferrata, eventually reaching the magnificent Namkat Yorla Pa Waterfalls. A picnic lunch is served alongside the Waterfalls.
In the afternoon, we continue to a panoramic viewpoint to admire breathtaking vistas of the valley and surrounding mountains. We then return to the resort for some well-deserved free time, where we can relax by the pool, enjoy a spa treatment, or simply unwind in the comfort of our accommodation.
In the evening, we enjoy a dinner performance featuring traditional music and dance.
Overnight is at the resort.
After breakfast, we join a cooking class led by the resort’s chef, who will teach us traditional Khamu recipes. This hands-on experience offers a meaningful way to connect with local culture. We also enjoy the delicious dishes we have prepared for lunch.
After lunch, we check out and transfer back to Luang Prabang by high-speed train.
