A Day of Responsible Experiences in Phnom Penh
This Sustainable Trail offers a deeper insight into Phnom Penh. Get a fascinating insight into the authentic ways residents live diverse livelihoods through community-run initiatives in Phnom Penh. Slow down and appreciate the efforts of individuals and local enterprises that are helping local communities through the implementation of a variety of inspired projects. Participate in improving the lifestyles of underprivileged Khmer people, while promoting local arts and crafts at the same time. Develop a better understanding of Cambodia’s eco-friendly initiatives and help ensure a better future for the country and its people.
The tour will be conducted using an electric tuk-tuk to reduce carbon emissions. Your guide will meet you at the hotel lobby and you will board the vehicle to begin an experience that will provide a fascinating insight into the daily lives of the Khmer people as they conduct a responsible approach to living.
The first stop is the Toul Tompong (Street 464) area to witness the first refill shop in town. Dai Khmer, founded in 2014, is a social enterprise that supports women in Cambodia through the production of natural handmade products created from local fruits and herbs. These include soaps, creams, coconut oil and many more organic items used in daily lives.
Afterwards, we move to centrally located Street 178 where you will have the chance to see skilled artisans fashioning different types of sculptures. Several workshops exhibit and sell sculptures of Buddha and deities. You will even have the opportunity to join a hands-on stone carving session with a local artist.
Your last stop will be at Street 240, with a visit to two socially responsible outlets. The first is called A.N.D, which stands for ‘artisan designers’, a Cambodian fair-trade brand that collaborates and works with local artisans, some with disabilities. The products range from jewellery to clothing accessories. You will have an opportunity to interact with local women artists who design and manage the production of the clothes.
The second stop is at ‘Watthan Artisans’, a local social enterprise, established in 2004. This showcases the talents of disabled and disadvantaged Cambodian artisans, such as weavers, woodcarvers and tailors. This initiative helps to uplift their socio-economic status in society.
Before, returning to the hotel, we will enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants.

- Transport alternatively – This experience includes travel by electric tuk-tuks, a unique and more sustainable way to view of the city;
- Experience meaningfully – Participants on this tour contribute to preserving Cambodia’s arts and crafts traditions. Visits to workshops stimulate employment and training opportunities for locals and marginalised people and it provides a chance for them to earn a ‘living wage’.
