Private Half Day Angkor Thom
Discover the might of the Angkor Empire with a half-day exploration of Angkor Thom. From the hotel, we catch a car or coach to the historic 12th century site. Translating as Large or Great City, Angkor Thom is a 10sq km city surrounded by 12 km of walls punctuated by five impressive gopura gates. King Jayavarman VII crowned it capital after driving out the Chams, who destroyed the former capital Yasodharapura. The city is home to several incredible spots. We start at the impressive South Gate before heading to Bayon. The temple is home to 216 giant smiling faces carved into stone. Next, we visit 11th century Baphoun, which already sat on the site when the city was created, and the Elephant Terrace and the Terrace of Leper King. Our final stops are at Hindu temple Phimenanakas and the Royal Enclosure. We then return to the hotel.
Please note: Visitors are required to keep their knees and shoulders covered at all sacred sites.
