Making rail-to-air connections easier

Travellers in Hong Kong could soon benefit from a more convenient connection between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Kowloon Airport Express Station.

The MTR Corporation and Airport Authority Hong Kong are testing an autonomous vehicle service that links the two stations, offering an alternative to the current route, which requires travellers to walk through a shopping mall while carrying their luggage.

The electric vehicles are expected to make the journey in around seven minutes, providing a more seamless connection between high-speed rail services and the Airport Express. If the trials progress as planned, the service could open to the public in the second quarter of 2027.

The project could also make onward travel more convenient for international visitors. MTR plans to introduce an in-town check-in and baggage drop facility at West Kowloon Station, allowing passengers arriving by high-speed rail to check in for their flight and drop off their luggage before continuing to Hong Kong International Airport.

These new services could create a smoother point-to-point journey for travellers, enhancing connections between high-speed rail and flights and making Hong Kong’s transport network even easier to navigate.
