Kampong culture at Singapore’s Pulau Ubin
One of the last real ‘kampong’ (‘village’ in Malay) in Singapore, Pulau Ubin is an island northeast of the city-state. A 15-minute bumboat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal, it supports a rich ecosystem teeming with flora and fauna, as well as threatened bird species.
A self-taught naturalist and wildlife consultant is the guide in the exploration of the island. If the tide is low the tour includes Chek Jawa Wetlands (for maximum 15 participants), the island’s star attraction. Comprising coral reefs, the wetlands is home marine wildlife such as sea hares, sea squirts, octopuses, starfish, sand dollars, sponges and cuttlefish.
The tour, for maximum 50 delegates, is a refreshing break from meeting rooms, providing a behind-the-scene look into the Lion City’s past.
