Positive steps benefit Laotians

Tourists on trekking holidays across Laos can embark on excursions that benefit host communities in rural locations.

Fair Trek is a not-for-profit organisation that works with local residents to create authentic tourism experiences that leave a positive impact. The NGO’s hiking programmes follow carefully planned routes that take in small towns and villages so local people can benefit from tourism activities, such as selling locally produced goods, or guiding groups on walks and sharing their expert local knowledge. Proceeds are also allocated to Big Brother Mouse, an organisation that publishes ‘books that make literacy fun’ for children across Laos.

This NGO also has a school on the outskirts of Luang Prabang that teaches core subjects such as languages and mathematics, as well as life skills, so graduates can secure gainful employment.
