Full Day Fireflies & Turtle Watching Tour
Be enchanted by the fireflies that reside alongside the Cherating River and catch a glimpse of green turtles laying their eggs. We start with a safety briefing before hopping on board the boat to cruise through the mangrove river to admire this spectacle. Our experienced and knowledgeable guide will recount stories about the winged beetles whose bioluminescence glow after the dark.
Afterwards we transfer to Teluk Mak Nik Beach (Monica Bay) where every year, from May to September, green turtles come to lay their eggs. The turtles come from the deepest ocean to the same place to lay between 80-to-120 eggs. Crawling up from the sea, they dig a hole to lay their eggs, covering it again once they have finished. The beach here is patrolled by an enforcement officer from the Fisheries Department whose job is to make sure the eggs are collected and placed in the fenced area, so the eggs are safe from predators.
Route
- Available from May to September only. Duration: 7 hours, with departure at 6 pm;
- The boat for the fireflies tour will be on sharing basis; available daily except Monday;
- Please note that turtle sightings cannot be guaranteed as it is highly depended on the animals, weather and sea conditions;
- This tour is not available the day before and on Eid Al-Fitr;
- This trail programme operates daily except Monday on a private basis with English-speaking assistance or with separate licenced guide. Seven pax and above will be provided with a separate English-speaking guide;
- Cancellation policy: 100% penalty charge will apply for cancellations within 4 days prior to the service date or a No Show.
