Surrounded by lush forests and dramatic mountain scenery, Mae Hong Son provides the perfect setting for travellers seeking cultural immersion, soft adventure and unforgettable landscapes, making it one of Thailand’s most rewarding leisure destinations.

Day-to-Day Itinerary

Get ready for a day of unforgettable adventure. Our exploration begins with collection from hotels in Chiang Mai, followed by a scenic journey through the northern towns of Mae Rim and Mae Taeng en route to Pai. Nestled in one of Thailand’s most beautiful valleys, Pai is a charming destination renowned for its laid-back atmosphere, vibrant walking street, boutique cafes, local handicraft shops and warm hospitality, all enhanced by lush countryside. Our first stop is the historic Memorial Bridge, located on the main highway. Originally constructed during the Second World War as part of the Japanese Imperial Army’s advance into Burma, the bridge offers an opportunity to stretch our legs while enjoying spectacular views across the Pai River. Following lunch at a local restaurant, we continue to Lod Cave in Pang Mapha. This remarkable karst cave has been shaped by water slowly dissolving limestone over millions of years, creating an extraordinary underground landscape of towering stalactites, stalagmites and limestone columns. Some of these magnificent mineral formations rise over 20 metres high, while mineral curtains create a surreal, otherworldly setting. The journey then continues to Mae Hong Son, where we have dinner and overnight.

Another day of exceptional experiences and rewarding exploration awaits. We begin with a visit to Mae Hong Son’s morning market, where traders dressed in traditional attire create a vibrant and colourful atmosphere. After breakfast back at the hotel, we visit Su Tong Pae Bridge, an impressive bamboo bridge built by local villagers in 2012 to provide monks from Phu Sama Temple with easier access over the rice fields to the nearby village. We then board a long-tail boat for a scenic journey along the Pai River and visit a local village. that is home to the Shan people, one of the ethnic groups predominantly found in Mae Hong Son. After lunch at a local restaurant, we focus on the town’s architectural treasures with visits to the twin Burmese-style temples of Wat Chong Kham and Wat Chong Klang. Overlooking Nong Kham Lake and framed by forested mountains, these beautiful shrines are located in one of the town’s most picturesque settings. We conclude at the hilltop Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, where spectacular panoramic views stretch across Mae Hong Son and the surrounding valleys.

Our final day is filled with fascinating cultural discoveries and spectacular natural scenery. After breakfast, we depart Mae Hong Son and travel to Mae La Noi District to visit Tham Kaew Komol, within Kaew Komol Forest Park. This remarkable cave is one of the world’s rarest geological wonders. It was discovered by chance during mineral exploration and has since been designated as a forest park, with backing from the Royal Family. We continue to Mae Sariang, a charming riverside town on the famous Mae Hong Son Loop. The area is home to diverse ethnic communities that contribute to the region’s rich cultural heritage. Lunch is at a local restaurant before spending time exploring the town. The return journey to Chiang Mai includes a stop at Ob Luang National Park, an area renowned for its dramatic natural landscapes. The Mae Chaem River has carved a spectacular gorge through towering limestone cliffs, creating one of Thailand’s most impressive geological formations. A bridge spanning the narrow canyon provides an excellent vantage point to admire the idyllic landscape. After exploring the park, we continue to Chiang Mai, where we are transferred to our hotel, ending three unforgettable days of spectacular mountain scenery, fascinating cultural encounters and remarkable natural wonders.
