Circus festival to reach new heights

The thrill of the big top takes centre stage at the Tini Tinou International Circus Festival this November – with this year’s edition promising to be bigger and better as it expands to two cities for the first time.

The biennial contemporary arts extravaganza will take place in Siem Reap and Battambang, attracting over 100 artists from 10 countries who will unite for seven days of circus performances and cultural events. The revelry begins in Siem Reap from 17-19 November before moving to Battambang from 21-24 November.

First launched in 2004, Tini Tinou, meaning ‘here and there’ in Khmer, is South-East Asia’s most dynamic circus arts festival. Alongside spectacular acts, audiences will be entertained by parades, arts and crafts markets and the chance to learn circus skills at special workshops.

In Siem Reap, performances will be staged at Phare, The Cambodian Circus, alongside free activities and pop-up events in public spaces around the city. In Battambang, the show is at Phare Ponleu Selpak Campus, with events at landmark sites, such as the Independence Monument and the National Museum of Battambang.

More than just entertainment, the festival promotes circus as a valuable and integral part of Cambodian arts and acts as a gateway for circus troupes from across South-East Asia to network with foreign artistes and perform on the world stage.
