Indonesian travellers gain visa privilege in China

Effective 12 June 2025, China officially added Indonesia to its 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit programme. This policy allows eligible Indonesian travellers to enter the country without a visa for up to 240 hours, provided they are transiting to a third country.

To qualify travellers must enter through one of 60 designated ports which offer access to 24 provincial-level regions across China. The programme permits stays for purposes such as tourism, business, cultural exchanges and family visits.

The inclusion of Indonesia reflects China’s ongoing commitment to strengthening regional ties and deepening cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The updated policy also covers more regions renowned for their tourism appeal and cultural significance. Under the visa-free transit scheme, travellers can now visit multiple destinations within the designated areas, which opens up the possibility to explore several provinces, such as Anhui in the East and Hainan in the South, all within a single itinerary.
