Chiang Mai’s rural secrets revealed

Asian Trails has launched a captivating new cultural experience in Chiang Mai that enables visitors to discover traditional agricultural life in Northern Thailand.

The activity takes place at a working organic farm set amid rice paddies, vegetable gardens and small animal enclosures. Guests are transferred from their Chiang Mai hotel by a traditional red songthaew to a serene countryside location, where they are introduced to the importance of rice cultivation in the kingdom’s agricultural communities.

The excursion includes a range of hands-on experiences, such as cooking herbal rice, collecting fresh eggs and preparing traditional steamed cupcakes. A highlight is watching buffaloes working in the rice fields, continuing their traditional role in Northern Thailand’s agricultural heritage.

Participants have the opportunity to plant rice seedlings in a muddy paddy field before enjoying a playful mud slide. The programme concludes with a delicious lunch prepared using fresh, locally sourced organic ingredients.

Designed to offer an authentic introduction to rural life, the experience is ideal for families and those seeking meaningful cultural connections.
