Amazing journey into a subterranean world

Experience the world’s largest cave without going underground through a new 5D virtual reality simulation.

The recently opened Son Doong 5D VR Expedition at the Phong Nha Cave Exploration Information Centre in Quang Binh Province takes visitors on an amazing journey into Hang Son Doong, located nearby.

Featuring 8K visuals, 180-degree projections, surround sound and sensory effects such as wind, mist and temperature changes, the experience is remarkably realistic.

The centre is a leading research facility, combining cutting-edge technology with over 35 years of underground exploration. It chronicles the mapping of the region’s caves by British explorers Howard and Debora Limbert, alongside local cave expert Ho Khanh. Exhibits include detailed hand-drawn maps, specialist caving equipment and data from 472 surveyed caves spanning 254 km.

Visitors can view screenings of documentaries produced by leading international broadcasters. Self-guided audio tours are available via QR code in English, French, Spanish, German and Vietnamese.

Open daily from 8 am to 5.30 pm, the exhibition area is free of charge, while the 15-minute 5D VR experience is priced at VND 500,000 (approximately US$19) per person.

Proceeds support local community development initiatives through the Oxalis Foundation. This is a must-see addition to any Phong Nha itinerary. Please contact Asian Trails Vietnam for more information.
