From war and logging to a rainforest haven
A new Asian Trails adventure in Cambodia offers the opportunity to experience a pristine destination transformed from a landscape once marked by conflict, commercial logging and hunting into a protected natural sanctuary.
Set deep within Koh Kong Province, adjoining one of South-East Asia’s largest rainforest corridors in the heart of the Southern Cardamoms Protected Forest, Chi Phat provides a rare glimpse into a region where dense jungle, winding rivers and remote settlements define daily life.

The commune comprises the four small villages of Chi Phat, Chaom Sla, Kam Lort and Teuk Laork. These are home to around 550 families who benefit from fertile red soil yielding abundant rice and a variety of seasonal crops.
Established in October 2008, the community-based ecotourism initiative has become a model for sustainable tourism in Cambodia.

Guests can enjoy a wide range of nature-based activities suited to all interests and abilities, including mountain biking, trekking to waterfalls for a cooling swim, guided birdwatching walks, scenic sunset boat cruises and relaxing stays in riverside lodges.
Beyond offering insight into a society sustained through local stewardship, guests’ tourism fees support environmental protection projects and the long-term success of this community-based ecotourism initiative.
