Experience a panda encounter like no other
Discover the world’s only known captive brown giant panda at the Qinling Four Rare Animals Science Park, a pioneering conservation facility located on the outskirts of Xi’an.

Found as a cub in a remote area of Foping County, Qizai’s distinctive brown colouring is attributed to a rare genetic mutation. He was rescued in a weakened condition and placed under specialist care at the park, where he has remained ever since. Although he has fathered offspring, none have inherited his distinctive colouring.

Asian Trails guests can learn about this remarkable conservation story at a facility dedicated to the breeding, research, protection and public education of rare and endangered species native to the region. The park forms part of wider conservation efforts in the Qinling Mountains, a recognised biodiversity hotspot in China.

In addition to giant pandas, the park is home to crested ibises, takins, golden snub-nosed monkeys, red pandas, black bears, muntjacs, gazelles and golden eagles.
The park can be visited on either a half-day or full-day excursion from Xi’an. Visits are arranged by Asian Trails during peak animal activity hours, typically between 8.30 am and 10.30a m, offering the best opportunity for wildlife observation.
