Mingalabar from Yangon, Myanmar!
It is my pleasure to share an update from my home, along with insight into the current travel situation here. While tourism in Myanmar remains complex, daily life continues as usual across many parts of the country.
While we do not yet recommend travel to Bagan, Mandalay, Inle Lake or the beach destinations, visits to Yangon and the Irrawaddy Delta region are possible.

In Yangon, daily life remains stable, and hotels, restaurants and key sites are open. Travellers can enjoy a quieter, more relaxed experience, with fewer crowds and a slower pace. Journeys feel more personal and unhurried and visitors are met with a warm and welcoming smile from the locals.
Pandaw, a river cruise company with a long-standing commitment to Myanmar, has shared advance notice with Asian Trails of its plans to relaunch a 10-night circular expedition through the Irrawaddy Delta. Voyages will begin and end in Yangon, with departures starting in November 2026.

The operator has retained its dedicated local crew and the fleet has been carefully maintained with continuity and care. Guests enjoy a voyage aboard the RV Kanee Pandaw or RV Kha Byoo Pandaw – intimate vessels with 14 and 10 cabins respectively. These are designed for small groups and immersive, slow-paced journeys.
The expedition explores a largely untouched region of Myanmar – a network of meandering waterways, lush mangrove forests and traditional delta communities. It offers a rare opportunity to experience the rhythms of river life, fascinating local culture and idyllic landscapes that are authentic and unchanged.
While travel today does involve a higher level of coordination behind the scenes, our team at Asian Trails is well placed to provide support – ensuring journeys run smoothly and efficiently, with traveller safety and security remaining a priority at all times.

This relaunch offers a thoughtful and responsible way to experience Myanmar today, highlighting its natural beauty and cultural richness while ensuring guest comfort throughout.
