Centuries-old tradition in iconic setting

A captivating new cultural experience is set to debut in Yangon this year.

Luxury heritage hotel The Governor’s Residence will host the exclusive Governor’s Yoke Thé Theatre, a weekly celebration of one of Myanmar’s most treasured performing arts.

Dating back centuries, this theatrical tradition combines intricate handcrafted puppets, skilled puppeteering, music and storytelling to bring legends, folklore and scenes from the nation’s rich cultural heritage to life in an intimate setting within one of the former capital’s most iconic buildings.

It is presented in collaboration with the renowned Myanmar Marionette Theatre and led by Daw Ma Ma Naing, one of the country’s foremost cultural preservationists.

Launching on 1 October 2026, the show will take place every Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm, with dinner included. Private performances can also be arranged for groups of 15 guests or more.
