A new way to explore the Mekong Delta
Asian Trails has introduced a new Mekong Delta full-day excursion that offers a more authentic, sustainable and carefully curated alternative to the classic My Tho tour.
Developed in close collaboration with local community tourism partners, the programme has been personally vetted by the Asian Trails’ Vietnam team to ensure high standards of quality, authenticity and guest comfort. It is designed for first-time visitors to the country and travellers seeking meaningful local encounters at a relaxed pace.
Guests engage directly with family-run farms and traditional craft makers across the Mekong Delta region, enjoying hands-on experiences that support small-scale producers and help preserve local livelihoods, while minimising the impact of mass tourism. These encounters foster genuine and personal connections with resident communities.
The programme provides insight into traditional crafts such as mat and water hyacinth weaving, coconut-leaf roofing and mushroom cultivation. Guests also explore the Delta through peaceful rowing boat journeys along narrow canals, as well as visits to fruit orchards and coconut farms.
Local cuisine is a highlight of the day, with opportunities to sample homemade cakes, traditional sweets and herbal drinks prepared by community members. Lunch features regional Mekong specialities created using family recipes passed down through generations.
Maximising every minute of the day, the route has been specially designed to minimise traffic delays by taking guests along an alternative route that avoids the two congested Rach Mieu bridges.
This carefully planned routing ensures a smoother, more reliable and enjoyable trip. Eco-friendly transportation is used throughout, with travel on land primarily by electric buggy or bicycle, complemented by short village walks to maintain a low environmental impact.
