Crafting coffee in Luang Prabang
Having flourished for over a century in the nation’s fertile highlands, Lao coffee produces some of the most distinctive flavours in South-East Asia, with local varieties ranging from rich chocolatey notes to delicate floral undertones.
Agricultural knowledge and cultivation techniques have been passed down through generations of farmers, who continue to nurture the land using traditional, sustainable methods.

Visitors can now experience this rich tradition on a new Asian Trails tour in Luang Prabang, gaining a rich insight into the bean’s natural history and cultivation. During the hands-on workshop, guests sample several varieties of Lao coffee and learn different roasting techniques to create their own personalised blend.

This intimate, sensory experience provides a deep connection to Laos’s coffee heritage, celebrating the stories, rituals and flavours behind every cup. Each participant leaves with their own bag of roasted coffee to commemorate their experience.

Asian Trails also offers an extended full-day journey that takes guests to a coffee-growing community on the outskirts of Luang Prabang. Learn more at: Spilling the beans on Lao coffee culture.
