Weaving sisters keep tradition alive
In Luang Prabang, the cultural heart of Laos, the story of Lao weaving is brought to life through the work of artisans Mone and Keo.
Known as the ‘Weaving Sisters,’ the two craftmakers have dedicated their lives to the loom, preserving a tradition passed down through generations of their family.
Working side by side on traditional wooden looms, the sisters transform silk and cotton into elegant handwoven fabrics. Using time-honoured techniques, they create intricate motifs that reflect the harmony, heritage and timeless beauty of Luang Prabang.
Rich colours and patterns are achieved using natural dyes derived from local plants, bark and minerals. The process is meticulous and meditative, requiring patience, precision and deep skill.

Programmes curated by Asian Trails offer tourists the opportunity to learn this intricate craft directly from the artisans themselves, gaining a rare insight into a living heritage. For more information, contact Asian Trails Laos.
